Cheapie Car Rental is a car hire company based on the Gold Coast.
It specialises in reliable, base-model vehicles that both visitors and locals can rent affordably for short and long periods of time.
Approach
Cheapie needed a site that delivered 2 things: outsized organic search performance and a simple, intuitive user experience.
Words
The new site was built around two key concepts: accessibility and feature parity.
Cheapie’s offering wasn’t a complex B2B service that needed layers of messaging.
It was for the average Australian, and that meant communicating differentiators as clearly and efficiently as possible.
We developed an informal, ultra-streamlined brand voice that blended SEO best practices with good information architecture and a low cognitive load.
Visuals
Cheapie’s visual identity was already established.
Our remit: to modernise it in an appealing, accessible way.
The outcome was a UI that drew heavily on the functionality of classic flat design – bold, simple colours, a workhorse typeface, and minimal moving parts.
We deliberately opted for a pared-back feel that conformed with the accessibility requirements of WCAG 2.2.
Code
Cheapie also needed to feature-match its competitors – modern booking sites have app-like capabilities such as live vehicle availability and online booking.
To showcase the rental cars, we developed a custom post type that would allow users to view each vehicle’s details.
We also built an enhanced contact form that integrated with Cheapie’s existing sales flow – customers could specify details like car type, rental dates, and location preferences, reducing admin time and improving contact rates.
