Process
Assess whether a new website supports your business and marketing objectives.
Sometimes, refreshing an existing site and investing the remaining budget in programs like SEO or Google Ads can be more cost-effective.
If you don’t have an in-house marketing team, we strongly recommend engaging a full-service agency at this point (rather than during Step 3).
Work out what you want to achieve with the new build.
That includes accurately diagnosing the business problem(s) you want it to solve, specifying success metrics, choosing your CMS, conducting SEO and user research, and confirming your budget.
Think about how you’ll implement your strategy.
Your planning should cover contractor procurement, project roles, your sitemap, and any specific software or functionality requirements.
Note: if you engaged an agency earlier in the construction process, they’ll work with you to develop a feasible plan.
Typically, implementation starts with drafting the copy (the text and information throughout your site). Your agency should present copy in both Word documents and low-fidelity wireframes.
Once you’ve signed off on all copy, your agency will develop mockups – static images of your website that look identical to the final product. At this stage, you’ll provide feedback on the visual aspects of your site.
Finally, after you’ve approved each page’s design, your agency will render those pages in a fully functional staging site.
Before your site goes live, both you and your agency will thoroughly review and test it in different environments.
Your new site enters the wilds of the internet.
In the hours and days after launch, your agency will keep testing things like analytics, URL redirects, and form integrations.
They should also provide basic training that covers things like logging into your CMS and making minor edits.
(You shouldn’t be reliant on an external developer to change critical information like your pricing.)
A website isn’t a one-and-done project.
In addition to ongoing marketing activities like SEO and CRO, your agency will provide technical support to keep your site secure, up to date, and performing at its best.

Questions
There’s no easy way to answer that question – every website (and brand) is different. The average small business normally needs around 10 pages on their site. That includes:
You can expect a 10-page WordPress site to cost you around $5,000.
E-commerce sites tend to be structured a little differently. Rather than custom-built product/service pages, we typically create a product page template that can then be populated using a CMS like Shopify or WooCommerce. That’s ideal if you frequently update your offerings – you can easily make the changes you need without paying us for development hours.
A good website relies on differentiation to drive revenue. Consumer-grade mediocrity – which is all LLMs are capable of – won’t move the needle.
It depends how large your site is, what assets you provide, and how responsive you are during the construction process. On average, a 10-page website takes around 2 months to go from discovery to launch.
Read our guide to website construction – written for business leaders – to find out more about the build process.
If you’re evaluating different web development agencies, make sure you’re comparing apples to apples. Try asking these questions before you sign any construction agreement.
Yes, we do. Each of our website packages includes an hour of live, hands-on training with one of our developers (which we’ll also record and share with you). That session will cover basics like:
Your website is a critical business asset – you should never be reliant on an external vendor to manage it. (Avoid agencies that won’t provide training or hand over logins. In all likelihood, they’re trying to keep you dependent on them so they can charge you steep hourly fees for minor updates.)
Yes, it will be. Mobile responsiveness is a bit like accessibility and loading speed. It’s table stakes for any modern site. If your site isn’t mobile-responsive, you’re compromising your SEO and making it impossible for anyone to interact with your business on a smartphone.
We test every website we build across all available screen sizes and dimensions before launch. That process includes both virtual device emulators and actual hardware – even the best emulators can sometimes fail to catch errors that show up in real-world testing.
