What’s the difference between Facebook, Instagram and Meta Ads?
Meta is the parent company of the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. ‘Meta Ads’ refers to ads run on either of the two platforms. You can manage your business’s ads on both Facebook and Instagram through the Meta Business Suite.
How do you create and manage Meta Ads campaigns?
Meta Ads aren’t right for every business. We start by working out which combination of marketing channels are likely to deliver the best overall ROI for your brand. If Facebook and/or Instagram happen to be among those channels, we’ll develop a social media strategy that includes both organic and paid components.
The exact structure of your Meta Ads campaign depends on various factors, including who your ideal customers are and the challenges they face in their buying journeys. For example, we might recommend running conversion-focused ads if you’re competing in a mature category with lower-cost offerings. On the other hand, it could be better to run awareness ads if you’re competing in a more complex industry with long interpurchase times.
We’ll then set up your campaign with different sets of copy and visuals. As we gather data and look at how each creative group performs, we’ll tweak and optimise to improve the metrics that matter – which, often, includes things like qualified pipeline and ROAS.
Can you reach the right audience with Meta Ads?
It depends. Your business’s target audience might not be influenced by Facebook and Instagram as much as other channels. Even if we identify both platforms as good places to allocate your marketing budget, paid advertising might not perform as well as organic community-building and social selling.
Every brand is different – which is why choosing the right agency matters. The last thing you want is to work with a Facebook Ads specialist who blindly prescribes paid campaigns without validating them as good-fit options. We’re a full-service agency, which means we aren’t biased towards any one channel. (We also don’t take a percentage of your ad spend as payment.)
What kind of ROI can you expect from Meta Ads campaigns?
If you’re running direct response ads – the kind designed to turn clicks straight into sales – you’ll be able to measure return on ad spend (ROAS), a metric that divides revenue generated by ad spend. For example, if you spent $2,000 and generated $8,000 in sales, you’d have a ROAS of 4:1, which means, for every $1 you spent, you earned $4. (ROAS varies hugely across campaigns – get in touch with us for a personalised estimate.)
ROAS can’t be used on other types of ad campaigns, though. Brand awareness or lead generation campaigns, for example, don’t convert straight to revenue, which makes it impossible to use metrics like ROAS. Instead, you can look at revenue attributed to your Meta channels generally (measured QoQ) or marketing ROI, which is net new revenue minus marketing and BD costs divided by those costs over a given period.
We recommend prioritising marketing ROI over channel-level metrics, because your different marketing and BD channels work together. It’s extremely unlikely that a B2B prospect, for example, would buy from you based on one single ad and not look at your website, organic socials, or any other collateral.
What kind of budget is recommended for Meta Ads?
We recommend a minimum of AU$1,000 per month in ad spend, which doesn’t include associated costs, like creative or landing page development. That’s enough for us to split-test different creative, refine targeting, and trial multiple types of ads.
Keep in mind that you’ll need to spend more if you want to run multiple campaigns, reach higher numbers of people, or scale your returns.
