Cheapie Car Rental had grown slowly since its founding in 2016.
Its owner was ready to amp up the momentum.
But, for an asset-heavy business with a low-cost positioning like Cheapie, that wasn’t going to be easy.
The big players in the car rental space had significantly more capital – which meant they could acquire expensive, late-model vehicles and rent depots near prime locations like Brisbane Airport.
That forced the smaller providers, like Cheapie, into a race to the bottom, where winning meant getting in front of price-sensitive customers first.
The issue: Cheapie’s existing website wasn’t performing.
Most of its leads came from Gumtree ads, and its competitors were benefitting from an uncontested search landscape.
Existing website had extremely limited content
SEO results were non-existent
Reporting mechanisms were not set up
Cheapie’s owner knew that digital marketing agencies could be unreliable, chewing up thousands a month in retainer fees without a positive ROI.
So he started screening potential partners with one criterion in mind:
Do they have a proven history of results?
He liked that we’d worked with dozens of small businesses over the years – we weren’t a big agency that relied on huge client budgets to buoy us.
And he loved that we had a results-based approach to marketing that included clear, revenue-adjacent KPIs.
When he saw that we also had in-house specialists in SEO, web design, WordPress development, and copywriting, he knew we had the capabilities to deliver a high-performing site.
At iOnline, we deliver more than just promises — we deliver results. Whether it’s SEO, web design, or digital strategy, our tailored packages are designed to grow your business without wasting your budget.
iOnline completely transformed our website, turning it into a visually stunning, user-friendly platform that perfectly reflects our brand. Their attention to detail and commitment to understanding our goals made the step-by-step process seamless. Since the launch, we’ve seen a significant increase in site engagement and conversions—our customers love it!

Website construction started with the necessary groundwork:
A thorough exploration of Cheapie’s business and marketing objectives, a technical review of the existing site that identified performance and usability issues, and benchmarking of competitor sites.
That information fed into the sitemap, which was designed to support both Cheapie’s current goals and planned expansions over the next 18–24 months.
Once the owner approved the proposed pages, we drafted copy that blended a highly accessible brand voice with information-rich FAQs.
Each page was reviewed before being flowed into design, which helped cut down on expensive late-stage revisions.
Following design approval, we developed the site in WordPress – built with Elementor for flexibility – and conducted standard testing and hardening protocols before taking it live.
Cheapie had just floored the accelerator on its growth.
Before.
After.
The new site was built around two key concepts: accessibility and feature parity.
Cheapie’s offering wasn’t a complex B2B service that needed layers of messaging.
It was for the average Australian, and that meant communicating differentiators as clearly and efficiently as possible.
We developed an informal, ultra-streamlined brand voice that blended SEO best practices with good information architecture and a low cognitive load.
Cheapie also needed to feature-match its competitors – modern booking sites have app-like capabilities such as live vehicle availability and online booking.
To showcase the rental cars, we developed a custom post type that would allow users to view each vehicle’s details.
We also built an enhanced contact form that integrated with Cheapie’s existing sales flow – customers could specify details like car type, rental dates, and location preferences, reducing admin time and improving contact rates.

Cheapie’s new website went live in August 2024.
In the 6 months since then, it’s driven more than 633 contact form submissions, calls and emails – leads that are ready to book.
It now ranks on the first page of Google for more than 90 high-intent keywords, including ‘long term car rental brisbane’ and ‘gold coast family car rentals’.
Critically, it has a key event rate of 78.1% –which means that, for every 4 visitors to the site, 3 contact the Cheapie team.
As Cheapie readies itself for a push into new regions, we’ll keep supporting the team with a combination of local SEO and high-speed, Australian-based hosting.
Because winning in a saturated market like car rentals doesn’t have to involve huge outlays of capital or competitive advantages like a great location.
Sometimes, the right marketing partner is enough.
