$5000 Small Business Basics Grant Program

QLD Covid-19 Government grants

Recently the Queensland Government launched the “Business Basics” grant.

The Business Basics grants program assists organisations in improving essential skills and implementing best practices.

Important Key facts:

  • This is a fixed grant of $5,000.
  • A business must employ fewer than 20 employees (Sole traders and partnerships are eligible to apply if they meet criteria)
  • Be registered for GST and have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • have a Queensland headquarters.
  • have a turnover of $300,000 or less for the current financial year.
  • Businesses that have received a grant in the past are welcome to apply.

You might be eligible for a $5,000 fixed grant payment upfront (excluding GST).

The Government will not fund activities with either:

  • A total cost of less than $5,000 (excluding GST)
  • Payments made before 17 May 2021.

What will be funded:

Training and coaching

  • Business development, marketing, human resources or business planning topics
  • Training or coaching

Website build or upgrades.

  • Creating or upgrading a website (Includes Refresh)
  • Adding e-commerce
  • Developing new website content

Professional business advice

  • Business plans.

Strategic marketing services

  • Strategic marketing plans including search engine optimisation advice.

Business continuity and succession

  • Business continuity or succession plans
  • Cybersafe training and tools

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, your business must:

  • have fewer than 20 employees at the time of applying for the grant.
  • have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST.
  • have a Queensland headquarters.
  • have a turnover of $300,000 or less for the current financial year.
  • not be insolvent or have owners/directors that are undischarged bankrupt.

What’s Next?

  • Applications open 31st of May. You need to get in quick on these grants the ones last year were only open for 8 hours before they were full.
      • There is quite a bit of documentation so you might want to review the requirements and then speak to your account.
